This is the year that the first wave of Baby Boomers turns 65. Like a bulge in the belly of a python, the boomers have worked their way through America's population demographic and changed every stage of life they have passed through. It's hard to believe that the Woodstock generation is about to overwhelm retirement villages and restaurants that offer early bird specials and senior discounts. But here they come. . According to AARP between January 1 and December 31, 2011, 7000 Americans will turn 65 every day.
In many respects Boomers want what generations before them wanted for their old age-- but in one respect they are different. Most hope to keep working for years and a significant number say they will never retire. Whatever happens, it is clear that the Boomers will put their own unique stamp on the golden years, just like they have done with every other stage of life.
Look out GenY This is your grandfather's retirement party and it is gonna shake things up. I promise.
